About Sammamish Friends:
At a Sammamish Parks Commission meeting in 2012, an idea was proposed: our city needed a nonprofit organization to champion causes related to parks and open space. Commissioners Rena Brady and Judy Petersen agreed to take on the challenge.
Sammamish Friends was officially launched in November 2012 when the IRS approved a nonprofit status. Charter members included representatives from the City Council and the Parks Commission as well as others with a passion for community and habitat in and around Sammamish. The organization is rich in talent and includes expertise in website development, real estate, volunteerism, government processes, and trail blazing.
Since it's founding, Sammamish Friends has met every month, focusing on positive engagement in environmental stewardship and community development.

With a focused mission of “Protecting our Environment and Enriching our Community” Sammamish Friends is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, serving as an “umbrella organization". Sammamish Friends provides organizational and financial support to the many local groups that are helping shape Sammamish.
In addition to partnering with community groups, Sammamish Friends also hosts their own projects and events. Key examples include activism for the Emerald Necklace Trail System, the development of Sammamish’s first postcard, and planning the Sammamish Kids Mud Run.
