SAMMAMISH, WA - Sammamish's Evans Creek Preserve is part of a nationwide competition to win an award named for "Parks and Recreation" character Leslie Knope.

Sammamish is competing for the award against 32 other parks across the nation in a March Madness-style tournament. Evans Creek is competing right now in online voting against a park in Hamilton, Ohio, to make it to the "sweet sixteen."

The Knope award was created by the Engaging Local Government Leaders nonprofit to honor the best government places. In past years, ELGL has recognized the nation's best libraries and best city halls.

If you've never been, Evans Creek is a 179-acre forested playland with over two miles of trails and boardwalks. The city bought the space in 2000 for preservation, and the trail system opened in 2011 after thousands of hours of volunteer work.

Evans Creek is competing in the "Donna" division, named after the "Parks and Recreation" character Donna Meagle. To vote for Sammamish, click this link.
