Sammamish Releases Budget Highlights For 2021-2022

SAMMAMISH, WA — Sammamish city leaders have released their "budget in brief" summary, outlining where the city intends to direct nearly $234 million through 2022. The biennial budget plan follows a multi-month process at the end of last year, including several hearings and spaces for public input.

"Challenging trade off decisions were made by Council to move toward a balanced budget, while maintaining reserves to sustain both future investments in major capital infrastructure needs and settings aside strategic operations reserves for the upcoming two years of city operations," wrote City Manager Dave Rudat. "Projected revenues in the 2021-2022 period are projected to drop $6.7 million over the previous two-year period. These decreases are primarily related to reduced government grants and reduced development related revenues and direct services."

Close to 40 percent of the city's budget comes from property, sales and real estate taxes, and other funding sources include water fees, licenses and permits. The highest share of expenditures, accounting for $34.4 million of the budget, is earmarked for public safety, followed by capital investments in parks, transportation and other city government services.

• Public safety: $34.4 million

• Surface water: $18 million
• Public works: $17.5 million
• Parks, recreation and facilities: $15.3 million
• Management, finance and legal services: $9.7 million
• Internal support services: $9.6 million
• Community development: $9.4 million
• Administrative and human services: $4.5 million
