Sammamish Residents Needed To Serve On City Commissions

There are volunteer openings on the arts, planning, recreation, and human services commissions.

SAMMAMISH-ISSAQUAH, WA - From the City of Sammamish: The City of Sammamish is actively seeking interested residents to fill critical positions on several commissions critical to city operations. Current openings include: Planning Commission, Arts Commission, and the Parks & Recreation Commission.

“The engagement of community members in these commission roles is so important to the transparent and open approach we take to governing in our community,” explained Interim City Manager, Larry Patterson. “Recommendations made by these commissions to City Council must be informed by residents if we are to adequately and consistently reflect the values and goals of the people and families that make Sammamish special.”

The Sammamish Arts Commission advises the City Council on matters of art. The Arts Commission also sponsors programming open to the public to further develop community interest in the fine and performing arts. The Commission meets on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 pm. More information and application material for the Arts Commission can be found at https://bit.ly/2xOlqas.

The Planning Commission is an advisory group to the City Council on issues relating to the City’s Comprehensive Plan, land use ordinances and regulations. The Parks and Recreation Commission is an advisory group to the City Council and staff on matters relating to planning, acquisition, development and operation of park facilities and recreation programs within the City. The Human Services Commission acts as an advisory group to the City Council, providing guidance on how best to meet the human service needs of the City. The Commission makes recommendations on topics related to human services priorities and funding. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month. All commission and board meetings are open to the public and are held at Sammamish City Hall, 801 228th Avenue SE. The meetings generally start at 6:30 pm. All position terms will begin on February 1, 2019. Most open positions have a term of 4 years, although some openings may be filling vacancies and may have terms of shorter duration. In addition to meetings, there may be other duties associated with serving on a commission.
