Schrier Appointed To 2 Key House Committees

The freshman Congresswoman from Issaquah will help House Democrats oversee agriculture and education issues.

ISSAQUAH, WA - Issaquah Congresswoman Kim Schrier received her committee assignments this week. Schrier will serve on the Education and Labor Committee and the Committee on Agriculture - an important assignment because the 8th Congressional District includes orchards and hops fields in Eastern Washington.

The education and labor committee oversees Democratic educational initiatives, but also has oversight over health issues. The committee helped form the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) in 2010. Schrier campaigned on improving and expanding healthcare, including opening Medicare to all.

Schrier announced the assignments in a short video posted on Twitter Thursday morning.

"I will have my hands on every bit of medical legislation that comes through," she said. "My commitment is to bring down the cost of health care and increase accessibility."

Schrier is the only member of the House from Washington serving on the agriculture committee. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Seattle, also serves on the Education and Labor Committee.
