OLYMPIA, WA — Democratic Rep. Kim Schrier, an Issaquah pediatrician, is seeking her second term representing Washington's 8th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, facing a strong challenge from Republican newcomer Jesse Jensen. In 2018, Schrier became the first Democrat to represent Washington's 8th District, handily defeating Republican Dino Rossi.

During the 2020 August Primary, Schrier received just 43 percent of the vote. Her opponent is a military veteran and former Amazon program manager living in Bonney Lake.

In early results on election night, Schrier led Jensen by more than seven percentage points.

According to the Associated Press, Schrier identifies her top priorities for a second term as protecting health care for people with pre-existing conditions, cutting health care and prescription costs promoting gun safety, and "reversing the damage Trump's presidency has done to U.S. democracy."

Jensen has criticized Shrier as too liberal and a "Seattle-style progressive." His campaign platform includes economic and health care porposals and favors deregulation, tax cuts and strong borders.
