Schrier's First House Speech Focuses On ACA Ruling

Schrier added her voice to an effort by House Democrats to overturn a judge ruling Obamacare unconstitutional.

ISSAQUAH, WA - U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier, D-Issaquah, gave her first speech in the House on Wednesday. Schrier took to the floor of the House to talk about a Texas judge ruling the Affordable Care Act - also called Obamacare - unconstitutional.

Healthcare was Schrier's focus during her 2018 campaign competing against Republican Dino Rossi. One of her biggest policy proposals was opening Medicare to more people as an alternative to private health insurance.

In her speech Wednesday, Schrier, the only medical doctor in the House, praised House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's effort to intervene in the Texas case to save the ACA.

"The first step is to preserve the protections that we have now. This is why I am so pleased that the House will take steps to intervene in this court case. I ask my colleagues to consider the fates of their constituents who might not have access to care without the ACA, and to support this intervention. Millions of Americans and thousands in my district are counting on us," Schrier said.
