Skyline Garage Sale Raises $900 for Students
Skyline High School Garage sale brings in funds that will help students pay for sports, clubs, yearbooks and more.
On Saturday, May 7, ’s student government held a garage sale on campus, raising approximately $900. These funds will be used to help students pay various fees, such as to play school sports, join a club, or buy a yearbook, things not every student can afford to do.
“We wanted all the students in the school to have the same opportunities,” said Allison Maners, Skyline High School activities coordinator.
The idea came from ASB Co-President Laura Cindric, who had previously worked on a garage sale for Relay For Life. She learned from that experience that a garage sale could cost almost nothing to put on and bring in a significant amount of money.
“We didn’t spend a single dime on this project,” said Cindric.
The ASB held its first garage sale in December, bringing in approximately $1,000, which proved the project’s worth.
“A thousand dollars in one day is greater than a lot of fundraisers can make,” said Cindric.
Items for the garage sale were donated by the local community and brought in by students. The ASB collected items for a week prior to the sale. Items on sale ranged from books and toys, to glassware and sports equipment.
Students requesting money apply through the school administration, which then approves the funding on a case-by-case basis.
Skyline’s ASB has been pleased with the success of the two sales and is looking to continue the program in the next school year.
