Thousands Without Power Due To Fierce Winds

Sammamish and Issaquah were hammered by wind gusts Monday resulting in downed trees and power lines.

SAMMAMISH, WA - The Puget Sound region was hit with a windstorm that resulted in hazardous road conditions and downed trees and power lines. Puget Sound Energy reported that roughly 3,600 customers in Issaquah and 4,200 in Sammamish were without power at 10 p.m. Monday. Winds consistently stayed at 50 mph as the storm peaked in the evening.

Along I-90 near Issaquah, a woman's SUV was crushed by a falling tree. In Sammamish, the city reported that trees had closed down numerous roads Monday night, including 4th Place at 218 Place SE, NE 16th Street between 212th and 216th Avenues NE, 29th Street at 200th Avenue SE, and 8th Street at 208th Avenue NE.

Approximately 150,000 people were without power at 6 p.m. Monday across Puget Sound. However, as of Tuesday morning, power had been restored to the vast majority of customers in Sammamish and Issaquah.

The National Weather Service forecasts Tuesday's weather as rainy, with up to a quarter of an inch possible during the day.
