Vitamin D Update
Vitamin D may reduce the risk of uterine fibroids, according to a NIH study noted in an April 15, 2013 News Release. The study which entailed 1,036 women, aged 35-49, living in the Washington, D.C., area from 1996 to 1999 concludes that women who had sufficient amounts of vitamin D were 32 percent less likely to develop fibroids than women with insufficient levels, detailed in the study.
The body makes vitamin D when the skin is exposed to the sun. When that is not the case, in parts of the world where there is limited opportunity to enjoy the sun, vitamin D requirements can come from food and nutritional supplements.
