WSP Trooper Hit, Injured On I-90 By Speeding DUI Driver

The trooper was monitoring a car crash when the speeding driver hit him. The trooper was hit on I-90 almost one year ago to the day.

ISSAQUAH, WA - A Washington State Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries Tuesday night when his patrol car was hit by a speeding DUI driver, according to police. The same trooper was hit by a semi along I-90 almost exactly one year ago.

Trooper R. Gagnon, 26, of Kirkland, was parked along I-90 near Highlands Drive. He was in his car monitoring a two-car crash that had just occurred. That's when Jeff Shillcutt, 53, of Issaquah, slammed his Lincoln MKZ into Gagnon's patrol SUV, police said. Both men were taken to Swedish Issaquah for treatment.

Police said Shillcutt was driving too fast for conditions and are pursuing DUI charges.
