A Quick Cool-Off & Chance For Rain This Week: Puget Sound Forecast

Puget Sound is in for a mid-week cooldown and a chance for rain before sunny days return once again. Here's what to expect.

SEATTLE — Seattle's mini heat wave is on the way out, with temperatures due to cool off a few degrees Tuesday before tumbling into the low 70s Wednesday, bringing with it a chance for some mid-week rain showers. A region-wide heat advisory was due to expire Monday evening, but Tuesday will stay plenty warm, if not a little cloudier. Forecasters expect afternoon highs will land in the low-to-mid 80s from Bellingham down to Olympia.

Puget Sound will see a more noticeable shift Wednesday, ending the above-average run of temperatures and bringing a morning shot for showers and potentially some thunderstorms.

"The aforementioned upper low will move north to a spot off the coast west of the Columbia River by Wednesday afternoon," NWS Seattle wrote Monday. "An associated upper short wave will push through the area later Tuesday night and Wednesday, bringing a better chance of showers to the entire area. Isolated thunderstorms are possible during this time as well. Highs will cool into the mid 60s to mid 70s which is a little below normal."

The relief from the heat arrives just after the Emerald City tied its record for the third-most 90-degree days in a single year, now trailing only 2018 and 2015. The mid-week cooldown won't last long, and those not ready to let go of summer just yet are still in luck. Sunny skies are back in the forecast Thursday through Sunday, with afternoon highs getting close to 80 degrees.

Here is the five-day weather outlook for the Seattle area:
