Docs: Seattle mom charged for fentanyl death of 1-year-old previously lost custody of other child (kiro7.com) — Seattle authorities have charged a local mother after her 1-year-old died with fentanyl in his system, following a late-night emergency response to an apartment on South Grand Street. Court documents detail her admitted fentanyl addiction, unsecured drugs and firearm accessible to children, and a prior history with state child welfare officials. Additional charges remain possible as the investigation continues.
   

2. Ukrainians in Seattle mark 35 years of freedom and fight to preserve it (seattletimes.com) — Ukrainian Americans and allies packed Seattle Center this weekend for Ukrainian Independence Day, blending traditional food and music with urgent fundraising for defenders back home. Local organizers highlighted Washington's sizable Ukrainian community, recent Seattle street rallies for peace, and ongoing efforts to keep U.S. political and financial support for Ukraine from fading.
   

3. Rave on the waves: Skrillex holds rare, sold-out concert at Gas Works Park (king5.com) — Thousands of fans packed Seattle's Gas Works Park and the surrounding waters of Lake Union for a rare, sold-out Skrillex show that quickly turned into a floating rave. With tickets gone almost instantly, many people watched from paddleboards, kayaks, and boats, turning the lake itself into an improvised dance floor and making the night feel uniquely Seattle.
   

4. Storm chase rare 2-game win streak against Sparks (statenews.net) — Seattle basketball fans get a small bright spot as the struggling Storm, anchored by rookie Flau'jae Johnson, look to secure a rare two-game win streak at home against the Los Angeles Sparks. Despite sitting at the bottom of the standings and missing guard Natisha Hiedeman, the young roster is focused on growth and finishing the season on a stronger note.
   

5. Renton, WA asphalt plant war ends as King County buys land (fox13seattle.com) — King County has bought the long-disputed Cedar River site near Renton, permanently blocking a proposed asphalt plant and protecting a watershed that supplies drinking water to nearly 2 million people in the greater Seattle area. Officials now want public input on turning the land into habitat, parks, and trail connections that could link to nearby protected spaces and McGarvey Park.
