Fundraiser For Fremont Store Damaged In Christmas Eve Arson

Sfingiday was badly damaged early Monday morning. The owners want to raise $50,000 to repair the damage.

SEATTLE, WA - The owners of a Fremont businesses badly damaged in a Christmas Eve arson are trying to raise money to reopen. Sfingiday sells gifts and artwork created by artists from around the U.S. and was founded by Seattle artist Christine Helen Olson.

Two separate fires were set early Monday morning in the Fremont neighborhood. The first fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. in an alley near North 36th Street and Evanston Avenue. Habitude Spa Salon and Red Star Taco Bar, located next to Sfingiday, sustained close to $200,000 in damage, according to Seattle fire.

The second fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. near North 36th and Phinney Avenue, about one block west of the first fire. In that fire, the store Ounce of Prevention sustained $10,000 in damage.

According to the GoFundMe fundraiser page, the fire spread into the rear of Sfingiday, and firefighters had to break through the wall to put it out.

"The store has suffered severe water and fire damage, much of the art is destroyed. This is a devastating and shocking loss for my sister, her family and the artists and employees connected with her store," the fundraiser page reads.

As of Wednesday morning, the fundraiser had raised about $5,000 toward its $50,000 goal. The store only opened in July.
