Happy Intimate Friend Day

May 13th comes with lots to think about and ways to build a more beautiful city in spirit.

And who is your intimate friend? Was the floating fluid of your mother’s womb the beginning of your best friendship? Fluids are not simple forms of matter; neither are our feelings about Mother’s Day. Fluids gush forth and fall down. In the “Morning Star” Chapter of the Holy Quran (Surah Al Tariq), it states: “So let man consider of what he is created. He is created of gushing fluid” (86:6-7). Our caring for the next generation or the person next to us may be like the water cycle of a rain forest, a desert, or a glacier. Lots of variables, which make the landscape of humanity so amazing. Yet ugliness prevails whenever, wherever people ignore the message brought by the spiritual teachers: worship Your Creator and be good to all creation.

Leading up to Mother’s Day, I implore my neighbors to learn from the message brought by Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Quoting from the chapter titled “City” of the Qur’an (Surah Al Balad), “And We have pointed out to him the two highways of good and evil. But he attempted not the ascent courageously. And what should make thee know what the ascent is? It is the freeing of a slave or feeding in a day of hunger an orphan near of kin or a poor man lying in the dust. Again, he should have been of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to mercy” (90:11-18).

Seattle, positioned within awesome natural beauty, must submit to obeying to the commandments of Our Creator to deter the spreading corruption in our city. Spreading the best of human nature requires the touchstone of justice for all, tempered with mercy especially towards those who nurtured us when we were young and those who nurture our young ones today.
