Ichiro Suzuki Gets 1 Year Contract, Mariners Confirm

Talk about Ichiro's return have been ongoing for a week, but the Mariners will make it official on Wednesday.

SEATTLE, WA - Former Mariners star Ichiro Suzuki will get a chance to be future Mariners star Ichiro Suzuki.

The Mariners confirmed Wednesday that the on-base monster will return home to Seattle this season. The team will hold a press conference at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to make the official Ichiro announcement.

Suzuki, 44, will sign a one-year contract with the Mariners. He has played the last three seasons for the Miami Marlins, and two seasons before that with the New York Yankees.

Suzuki began his lengthy professional baseball career with the Mariners in 2002. He was revered for his ability to get on base - and steal bases. He finished the 2017 season with a .255 batting average and one stolen base - however, he's stolen at least 10 bases in every previous season. Suzuki had a .318 on-base percentage. By comparison, Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz had a .375 OBP last season.
