Kent Murder Victim Was Set To Start College Monday
Karyme Barreto, 18, was shot over the weekend at a Kent park. She was about to start school at South Seattle College.

KENT, WA - The 18-year-old woman who died after being shot in an apparent act of domestic violence last weekend missed her high school graduation by a few days - and was set to start nursing school at South Seattle College this Monday.
Karyme Barreto died after she was shot Saturday night along a trail at a small park in Kent off SR 99. Barreto's 19-year-old boyfriend has been arrested for her murder. He was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly leading police on a chase that ended in Des Moines.
Barreto's family has started a fundraiser to cover the expenses related to her funeral and memorial service. As of Friday afternoon, they had only raised a little over half of the $10,000 goal. The family said that Barreto would have graduated from Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines on Wednesday. She was set to start college on Monday to realize her dream of becoming a nurse.
