The Clean Cobalt Framework was launched in 2018 at Metalkol RTR in the DRC. It aims to implement OECD guidance but also go further, it forms part of the Group’s effort to ensure sustainable cobalt production.

Eurasian Resources Group’s copper and cobalt operation Metalkol RTR in the Democratic Republic of Congo reprocesses historical tailings formed from previous activities by other mining companies.

Benedikt Sobotka – Chief Executive Officer of Eurasian Resources Group – presented the results of the Metalkol Clean Cobalt Performance Report and said that this presented a significant and positive development for operation.

Metalkol RTR reprocesses historical tailings and produces high-quality mineral products. As part of its commitment to sustainable production it has implemented a Clean Cobalt Framework .

The Clean Cobalt Framework comprises the following seven goals:

1. Compliance with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals

2. Our cobalt is free of child labour

3. Our cobalt is traceable

4. Our cobalt does not come from artisanal and small-scale mining

5. We restore the environment

6. We collaborate to support sustainable community development

7. We support our industry towards more sustainable cobalt value chains

“For us and the stakeholders in the supply chain, it is crucial to ensure that the mining and processing of cobalt used to produce power batteries is sustainable. This is reflected in the our clean cobalt goals and partnerships are especially important to us, from customers and end users to organisations including the Good Shepherd Sisters and Pact.” – said Benedikt Sobotka, CEO of Eurasian Resources Group.
