BURIEN, WA — A 2-year-old boy critically injured when a van rammed through a Burien clothing store is expected to survive, according to the King County Sheriff's Office. The toddler was among 11 people hurt following a shoplifting incident at the Ross store Monday night.

Investigators said a 49-year-old woman took some items from the store and got into the passenger seat of a white van parked outside. As the driver, a 51-year-old man, sped through the parking lot, he hit a parked car and crashed through the front doors of the store, hitting several people and pinning the child.

The sheriff's office released an exterior surveillance video of the crash Wednesday afternoon.

The toddler had no pulse when deputies arrived, but life-saving efforts by first responders successfully revived him. The toddler's grandfather and an unrelated man in his 30s were also critically injured in the crash and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Eight other patients were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspected driver, Lee Skelly, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault. According to court documents filed Wednesday, a drug recognition expert suspected Skelly was under the influence of stimulants at the time of the crash. Investigators took a blood sample at the scene and are awaiting results.
