One More Dry Weekend, Then New Chances For Rain: Puget Sound Forecast

The latest models are a little uncertain about just how rainy Thanksgiving will be, but a near-record dry streak looks to be on the way out.

At least a little rain is in the forecast for the holiday week ahead, but just how much is still an open question.

SEATTLE — Western Washington is in for another dry weekend before the rain makes its way back into the region for at least part of Thanksgiving week. Saturday and Sunday are on track to stay crisp and mostly sunny around Seattle before the first shot at rain showers arrives Sunday evening.

The last time the Emerald City logged 10 dry days in a row in November was in 2014, and Friday marked the 11th since the last measurable rain this month. If Seattle makes it to the end of Sunday with no rain, it will tie November's all-time record.

Temperatures will continue to run chilly through the weekend before rebounding into the 50s next week.

"Temperatures will be in the upper 40s through Monday with overnight lows in the 20s
and 30s," NWS Seattle wrote Friday. "Be aware that surfaces could get frosty overnight with temperatures forecast to be as low as the mid 20s and could be slippery."

A chance of rain is in the forecast every day next week, but models are still in disagreement over just how wet things might get.

"An analysis of the ensembles, cluster patterns, and QPF trends have unveiled many inconsistencies in the outcome of the coming week regarding additional fall systems to arrive," wrote Madelyn Kristell, an NWS meteorologist. "Generally, the deterministic models seem to be more excitable about the prospects of precipitation returning than the ensembles do."

Right now, forecasters see some chance for rain Sunday evening and Monday afternoon, with a better shot at precipitation arriving Monday evening and Tuesday. Kristell said models are currently split on Thanksgiving Day, with some showing rain deflecting to the north and others allowing for lingering precipitation. Forecasters expect to get a clearer picture in the coming days.

The Climate Prediction Center's latest outlooks favor warmer temperatures and show probabilities tilted slightly toward above-average precipitation over Thanksgiving through next weekend.
