ReachNow says the cancellation of car-sharing in Seattle and Portland is due to a "realignment" within BMW and Daimler.

SEATTLE, WA — ReachNow abruptly ended its car-share service on Wednesday. The company sent out an email to users saying that it would end service "effective immediately after a realignment within the new BMW Group and Daimler."

ReachNow cars were available for short-term rental across the Seattle and Portland areas. The company offered high-end BMW and Mercedes models.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you and our more than 100,000 members in Seattle, Portland and Brooklyn over the past three years. Your feedback has been invaluable in building ReachNow and will now help to shape the future of urban mobility," the company said in an email to users.

Earlier in 2019, ReachNow joined a joint venture between BMW and Daimler called YOUR NOW. ReachNow will be folded into another company inside YOUR NOW and will "focus on building a multimodal platform and will no longer operate car sharing and ride hailing services."

The car2go service, also part of YOUR NOW, will continue as usual. The bike share company Lime recently launched a car share service in Seattle featuring small Fiat cars.
