Richard Sherman Says Seahawks Fired Him

"If one job fires you and another job offers you a great position I highly doubt most ppl would go back to the old job," Sherman said.

SEATTLE, WA - Former Seahawks star Richard Sherman has characterized his departure from the team as a firing. The Seahawks released Sherman on Friday, and he officially signed a nearly $40 million multi-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

On Twitter Monday morning, Sherman pushed back on fans complaining about his decision to play for Seattle's arch rival.

"Instead of getting upset with me for going to a new team how about you get upset with the people who forced me to go," Sherman wrote. "If one job fires you and another job offers you a great position I highly doubt most ppl would go back to the old job for a lot less money."

Seattle-area fans were so outraged at Sherman's move to the 49ers, some burned his jersey.

After Seattle released Sherman, he told ESPN, he asked if they would match San Francisco's offer. Seattle declined, he said.
