The Mariners announced the new Safeco name Wednesday. The team wouldn't confirm previous reports about the name change.

SEATTLE, WA - Welcome to T-Mobile Park. Or maybe The Cell? What about the Un-Stadium?

Whatever you want to call it, the Mariners confirmed Wednesday that T-Mobile will get the naming rights to the stadium for the next 25 years.

“The Un-carrier is always shaking things up for the better, and this time we’re going BIG with the Seattle Mariners for all their fans,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a press release . “T-Mobile Park isn’t just some corporate-branded sponsorship to us - this is about supporting the community and our hometown Mariners in building a World Series-caliber team!”

Legere has built the T-Mobile brand as a sort-of zany alternative to other cell providers. T-Mobile Park get the same treatment. The stadium will celebrate "T-Mobile Tuesdays," where fans will get free stuff. T-Mobile customers will get discounted tickets, faster entry, and merchandise discounts.

The deal is still subject to approval by the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District, the public body that leases the ball park to the Mariners. If approved, the Safeco re-branding will be mostly complete by opening day on March 19, according to the team.

Bellevue-based T-Mobile recently got permission from the federal government to merge with Sprint. The $26.5 billion deal will catapult T-Mobile to one of the largest cell providers, on par with rivals AT&T and Verizon.
