Eleven families in our incredibly diverse neighborhood have been told for years their homes were not inside of Seattle's historic Duwamish Nation and earliest settlers' resting grounds. Immigrants from Viet Nam, China, Eritrea, the Phillipines, and others are appalled by the City's past denials that their homes were atop the babies' section of these sacred lands. Last week Seattle acknowledged the Comet Lodge Cemetery's zoning had been changed to retail space and single family in 1986. One year later the City bulled the stones, on All Souls Day, and then trenched a sewer main through registered burial sites. Should the City compensate these homeowners for the taxes paid and the total loss of value in their investments?
