SEATTLE, WA — The Seattle Seahawks are saying goodbye to two "franchise icons," announcing the termination of Kam Chancellor and Doug Baldwin on Thursday. Both players have suffered through injuries recently, preventing them from playing.

“The Seahawks have made the difficult decision to terminate/failed physical Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said in a statement. “These are two of the most iconic players in franchise history and both were instrumental in establishing our championship culture, great examples of competitiveness and leadership on the field and in the community. These legendary players will always be a part of our Seahawks family.”

Chancellor suffered a neck injury in 2017 and has been unable to play since. Baldwin suffered an elbow injury at the beginning of the 2018 season, and only ended up playing 13 games during the season.

Baldwin and Chancellor joined the Seahawks in 2011 and 2010, respectively. Both helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 against the Denver Broncos.

Baldwin has been deeply involved in the local community, particularly in Renton. He is in the process of trying to help build the Family First Community Center next to Cascade Elementary School in the Benson neighborhood.
