Suspect Shot By Police, Deputies During Seattle Drug Operation

A Seattle Police Department spokesman said the suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries that were non-life-threatening.

SEATTLE, WA — A man was shot by law enforcement in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, during a joint narcotics operation involving the Seattle Police Department and the King County Sheriff's Office.

A large response arrived at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Blanchard Street around 3 p.m.

According to Seattle Police, investigators attempted to arrest a man inside a vehicle during the drug operation. As they approached, officers reported seeing a gun. Two Seattle police officers and two King County deputies opened fire.

SPD said the suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. No officers or deputies were injured during the incident. Blanchard Street would remained closed in the area for several hours while an investigation continued.

The Valley Investigation Unit will lead a probe into law enforcement's involvement in the shooting. SPD detectives will continue a crimnal investigation of the suspect.

Police were called to another shooting involving multiple patients near Westlake Park Wednesday evening.

Wednesday's shootings follow the killing of a 55-year-old man Tuesday at Westlake Center, just a few blocks away. Police are still searching for a suspect in that case.
