Stage 2 Burn Ban Issued For All Of King County
The upgraded burn ban extends prohibitions to all recreational fires, including backyard fire pits and campfires.

KING COUNTY, WA — A Stage 2 burn ban went into effect Friday across King County, prohibiting more types of fires amid the recent heat wave and continued dry conditions. While the King County Fire Marshal's specific order applies to unincorporated areas, the ban extends into all cities through their respective fire chiefs.

"Extended periods of abnormally high temperatures have increased the fuel load in the vegetation in our community," the fire marshal's office wrote Friday. "The large fire in Oregon and other fires in Washington have stretched wildfire fighting resources throughout the region."
Stage 2 burn bans prohibit all outdoor fires, including backyard fire pits and campfires, whether they're fueled by firewood or charcoal. During the ban, anyone who fails to immediately extinguish a fire can be charged with a misdemeanor.

The ban allows the use of certain outdoor appliances, like barbecues and patio warmers, fueled by charcoal, natural gas, or propane. However, fire officials recommend increased caution when disposing of charcoal.
According to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center, 30 large wildfires were burning uncontained Friday, including 17 in Washington and 13 in Oregon. Washington remains under a wildfire state of emergency, with much of the Evergreen State facing exceptional drought conditions.
