SEATTLE, WA — Multiple protest rallies will happen across Puget Sound on Tuesday to protest recent laws passed in other states that nearly eliminate abortion. The "Stop the Bans" rallies will happen in Seattle, Sammamish, Shoreline, and other cities.

The region's main rally will happen at Seattle from noon to 1 p.m. and is sponsored by NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. Speakers include state Reps. Kristine Reeves and Nicole Macri, Attorney General Bob Ferguson, state Sen. Manka Dhingra, and Commissioner of Public Lands Hillary Franz.

Gov. Kay Ivey last week approved the strictest abortion law in the U.S. The law bans abortion in almost all instances, including rape and incest, and makes it a felony to perform an abortion. The law is likely not enforceable, however, due to the Roe v. Wade decision. Missouri and Georgia have passed similarly strict laws.

The 1970s Roe v. Wade decision is in jeopardy, pro-choice groups say, because of recent Supreme Court appointments made by President Donald Trump.
