These Holy Days for Muslims

Millions of Muslims make their way to Mecca and even more staying home make special efforts to grow spiritually.

Muslims live in Seattle. From now until August 24th extraordinary spiritual growth becomes a priority. Those who can afford travel to the ancient temple built in Becca, now known as Mecca. Other devotees remember The Beloved with recitation of Holy Scriptures, fasting, profuse prayers, extra kindness to others, visiting the sick, and making sacrifices. As the Muslims strive to be ever inclined to The One God, Creator and Sustainer of all the worlds (Allah) they follow the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him.

Eventually, Prophet Abraham gained much success, but he faced severe trials along the way. One such trial was when he obeyed God’s command by leaving his wife and young son in a barren valley. She ran from hill to hill searching for water. This week millions of pilgrims retrace her steps during the Hajj. God rewarded her faith with the well of Zam Zam. This water source still quenches the thirst of pilgrims.

Last year this neighbor of yours made Hajj. If Allah so wills, this year after the local Eidul Adha celebration on Wednesday, August 22, we will be hosting a #MeetAMuslim open house at the Bottega Italiana café on 1st Ave. from 5 to 6 pm. Women are most welcome. Men may obtain the contact information of Ahmadi Muslim men who love to answer questions about Islam.
