Traffic Alert: Seattle Sounders Rally Will Take Over Downtown Tuesday

As many as 10,000 are expected to attend the mid-day rally, transportation officials say.

SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle Sounder FC will celebrate its first-ever MLS Cup victory on Tuesday afternoon with a victory rally and parade in downtown Seattle.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Westlake Park, where players and coaches will board Emerald City Trolley cars and ride them up 4th Avenue toward the Seattle Center. The parade will also take over portions of Cedar Street and 5th Avenue.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is expecting as many as 3,000 to attend the parade, and another 10,000 at the Seattle Center rally.

Once at the Seattle Center, fans can participate in a rally until 1:30 p.m. near the Fisher Lawn and the main fountain. Before moving to CenturyLink Field, the Sounders played at Memorial Stadium at the Seattle Center beginning in the mid-1970s.

During the rally, the Sounders players and coaches will present the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy to residents for the first time ever. Sounders announcer Matt Johnson will emcee the event, and there will be speeches by Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, and King County Executive Dow Constantine.
