• August 12 North Cascades Fires Update (nps.gov) — Sedro-Woolley residents are getting a fresh update on the North Cascades' Border 2 and Luna fires, including current acreage, firefighting progress, and new trail and camp closures. Officials warn that warming, dry weather could worsen fire conditions, and they're urging people to respect burn bans, monitor smoke impacts on air quality, and check online resources for evolving closures and health guidance. 
• Horseshoe club keeping ancient sport alive in Skagit County (cascadiadaily.com) — A Skagit Valley horseshoe club that traces its roots to the Sedro-Woolley Loggerodeo is working hard to keep this old-school sport alive. Now based at 24 courts in Burlington, longtime members are inviting newcomers of all ages to try free Tuesday night sessions, learn the basics, and enjoy a low-pressure, family-friendly way to stay active and meet neighbors.
