King’s Students Fundraise For Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission

King’s Elementary announced a student-raised $1,000 donation to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, in a press release last week. The students brought in the funds through their annual Marketplace project—a school event at which innovative 4th grade students create and sell a product or service.

The student's, accompanied by Donor Relations Coordinator, Angie Kim, and Intern, UGM program graduate, Edward Elder, presented the donation to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission representatives, when they visited King’s campus.

"We are very thankful for King’s," Kim said. “It was incredible to see the dedication of the students and how much they were willing to give of themselves."

"King’s Elementary is blessed by their friendship with UGM," said the schools representatives, in their press release. "We are thankful to provide relief during the giving lull often experienced by charitable organizations in the spring season."

King's Vice Principle, Gordon Kelly, said he was proud of the longstanding relationship between the Union Gospel Mission and the school, which began over 20 years ago. He added that he hoped the students would use the experience to apply one of the school's 2012 core values—empathy.

The final cash donation, after a few parent contributions, was $1,225, in addition to over 1,500 pounds of food.
