📰 News we're reading

• Shoreline City Council opposes Washington State Initiative Nos. IL26-638 and IL26-001 (shorelineareanews.com) — Shoreline City Council has formally opposed two statewide initiatives, one restricting transgender students' participation in girls' sports and another expanding parental rights in ways the council says could limit confidential support for LGBTQIA2S+ youth. The council passed Resolution 567 after a public meeting where both residents and councilmembers could speak for or against the measures, signaling strong local concern about their impact on Shoreline schools.

• Former County Councilmember and Edmonds Mayor Mike Cooper dies (mylynnwoodnews.com) — Shoreline residents are remembering former firefighter and lieutenant Mike Cooper, who spent decades with the Shoreline Fire Department and taught fire safety to local students. The obituary traces his life of public service, from firefighting and union leadership to roles in the state legislature, Snohomish County Council, Edmonds mayor's office, and later the Elma City Council.
