Pirates Draft Shorewood Grad LeCount

Bobby LeCount, who graduated from Shorewood High School, was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third and final round of the Major League Baseball draft on Wednesday in the 44^th round with the 1,322^nd pick.

LeCount, 20, just finished his second year at EDCC. As a third baseman he batted .287, with six home runs and 25 RBI in 108 at bats. His six home runs put him among the leaders in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

LeCount also found success as a pitcher. He had a 1.62 ERA in 39 innings, striking out 36 batters while walking only seven.

Edmonds resident Taylor Smith-Brennan, a 2010 graduate of Meadowdale High School, was chosen by the hometown Seattle Mariners.

Smith-Brennan, 19, was taken in the 31^st round with overall pick 1,023. The 6-foot, 200-pound second baseman was also selected last year by the California Angels, but elected to play his freshman year at .

For the EDCC Tritons, Smith-Brennan hit .360 in 125 at bats, with 12 doubles, four home runs and 24 RBIs.

Two of Smith-Brennan’s teammates at EDCC also were selected Wednesday.

The Baltimore Orioles, with pick 1,295 in the 34^thround, selected 19-year-old right-handed pitcher David Reynolds, who is also a freshman.  

In addition, Chris Dennis, a pitcher from the University of Portland who attended EDCC and Bothell High School, was drafted in the 34^th round with the 1,038^th pick. He was selected by the Colorado Rockies.

On Tuesday,  was selected by the New York Yankees in the seventh round with the 239^th pick.
