SHORELINE— Rivals Shorewood and Shorecrest entered Wednesday night’s matchup at Shoreline Stadium unbeaten in league play and looking to build momentum as the season progresses.
After 80 minutes of back-and-forth action resulted in a 1-1 tie, the 10-minutes of overtime featured more aggressive play and some pushing and shoving after the final whistle blew.
All that intensity would be channeled into penalty kicks.

“When it comes down to the biggest rivalry and you take the final kick it’s a mind game I guess,” Adams said. “So many fans came out to this game. They (Shorewood) definitely put up a good fight.”
Shorecrest, a favorite to win league improved to 6-0 in the Wesco 3A and 7-0 overall. Shorewood fell to 4-1 in league play and 5-2 overall.
The Scots pick up only two points in the league standings and Shorewood one since the game went to PKs.
Shorewood struck first about 20 minutes into the game. Hamza Haddadi knocked in a shot off a free kick by Eugene Holley.
Shorecrest failed to connect in the first half, but got an opportunistic goal by Oregon State-recruit and senior forward Glenn Paden who was right in front the goal to clean up a shot by Jaime Perry.
“You got to give Shorewood a lot of credit. They played hard and made things real difficult for us. I don’t want to take anything away from Shorewood at all, but frankly we didn’t play very well at all. We were playing more their style of soccer than our style of soccer. That happens once in awhile to kids,” Shorecrest coach Drew Thompson.
Despite the loss, Shorewood coach Nathan Davis admired the effort his team put forth.
“I’m proud of these guys, they’ve been working hard. I’m glad our guys didn’t have mental mistakes,” Davis said. “In the second half we were knocking on the door and we had opportunities on the far post in overtime.”
