1. SPR News Today: A Spokane wildfire survivor tells his story. (spokanepublicradio.org) — Spokane Public Radio's daily update digs into what wildfire-hit Spokane homeowners must do about asbestos before rebuilding and how an Oregon nonprofit will help recover loved ones' ashes from burned homes. It also explains the Spokane Public Library's looming budget shortfall and highlights Spokane-linked candidates in upcoming state Supreme Court races, plus one survivor's emotional story of loss and community support. 
2. As Spokane Wildfires Raged, Health Center Staff Mobilized for Patients (directrelief.org) — Spokane residents are still reeling from nearly 20 days of August wildfires that destroyed about 1,000 structures, including hundreds of homes with school-aged children. Local health provider CHAS rapidly deployed staff, mobile clinics, and supplies at Spokane disaster centers and Shadle Park High School, offering medical care, hygiene kits, and mental health support while many of their own employees were also evacuated or lost homes.
3. Unpacked: Faith and fire recovery in Spokane (nwpb.org) — Spokane residents recovering from this month's destructive wildfires are getting sustained help from local churches, faith groups, and colleges like Gonzaga and Whitworth, which sheltered evacuees and provided emergency housing. Faith leaders stress that while flames are out, long-term needs for housing, supplies, counseling, and preparedness training will continue well into the fall and beyond.
4. Gov. Ferguson provides disaster declaration updates in Spokane (929zzu.com) — State leaders in Spokane are preparing a major federal disaster declaration that could unlock individual FEMA assistance for local wildfire victims, while state aid has already reached hundreds of households. Governor Ferguson and Mayor Lisa Brown are urging Spokane-area residents, especially those uninsured or underinsured, to apply for help by September 9 and share their specific needs.
5. Spokane City Council considers several fire relief ordinances to help Spokane Complex Fire victims (krem.com) — Spokane City Council is weighing emergency ordinances to cut demolition permit fees and expand housing and meal support for Spokane Complex Fire victims, with votes possible as soon as Wednesday. Proposals include sharply reduced demo fees for damaged homes and a contract paying local nonprofit Blessings & Beyond to feed up to 450 evacuees at the Spokane Convention Center.
