• Man, 20, dead after crashing into a tree in East Pierce County (thenewstribune.com) — A 20-year-old Sumner man, Brock Lewis, died Wednesday afternoon after his car crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a tree on State Route 410 near Greenwater. Washington State Patrol said he was driving at high speed, and the highway was blocked for about four hours while troopers investigated and cleared the scene.
• River Ridge tops Yelm for first win of season (thurstonchronicle.com) — River Ridge boys tennis edged Yelm 3-2 behind strong doubles play, while Yelm swept the singles courts in a tight early-season matchup. For Sumner fans, the key note is that Yelm will host the Spartans on Thursday, giving local supporters a nearby chance to see the team in action.
