UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (September 17, 2026) – Scenthound, the original dog wellness brand, will officially make its debut in University Place at 3556 Market Pl W Suite 106. The new Scenthound opens for business on September 18, inviting local dog parents to experience its preventive, membership-based approach to canine wellness.
To celebrate its debut, Scenthound University Place will host a grand opening event on September 29 from 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. which will include a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony joined by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce. All members, neighbors, and the curious public alike are welcome to tour the facility and meet the team.
The new Scenthound in University Place is owned and operated by local husband-and-wife duo Zo and Brad Hummel, who are bringing Scenthound’s wellness-focused approach to dog care to the South Puget Sound region.
After a long career in the EdTech industry, Zo set her sights on a new kind of impact, and the inspiration came from an unexpected place. Like so many dog parents, the Hummels found themselves navigating a fragmented market: big-box options that didn’t feel personal, independent groomers with unpredictable availability, and pricing that was rarely straightforward. When they discovered Scenthound's membership-based model, it resonated immediately. That insight became a shared mission, and together the couple pursued a purpose-driven venture focused on making routine wellness care more consistent and accessible for pet parents across the South Sound. The Hummels purchased eight Scenthound licenses across the South Sound and Vancouver regions, with University Place marking the first location to open as part of their long-term growth plans.
“We were drawn to Scenthound because it completely reshapes how we should think about our dogs’ overall wellness,” said Zo Hummel. “Being dog parents ourselves, we’ve experienced first-hand how difficult it can be to find consistent and trustworthy wellness care. That experience is what made this opportunity feel so personal for us. We’re excited to open in University Place and become part of a community that truly values its dogs as family.”
Scenthound uses a wellness-based approach to improve the quality of life for dogs. Embedded in the name, Scenthound focuses on five core areas of maintenance: Skin, Coat, Ears, Nails, and Teeth, or S.C.E.N.T. Team members are fully trained to provide routine hygiene and wellness care so dogs live longer, happier lives. With its proprietary S.C.E.N.T. Check® and a range of membership options, Scenthound is redefining dog care by focusing on prevention over reaction. The brand educates dog parents on routine hygiene and wellness while providing consistent care and 24/7 access to a veterinarian through its mobile app. All memberships include the “basic hygiene” package (including a bath, ear cleaning, nail clip, teeth brushing and six-point wellness check), and dog parents can purchase additional services as needed. Scenthound enriches the connection between people and their dogs as a trusted provider of dog hygiene and wellness care in University Place.
