Local students earn Apple Awards nominations across NCW (ncw.news) ā High school theater fans can cheer on local talent at the Apple Awards ceremony on May 14 at the Numerica Performing Arts Center in downtown Wenatchee. Students from Wenatchee, Eastmont, Cashmere, Chelan and other NCW schools earned nominations across acting and technical categories, with tickets available now for community members who want to celebrate their work.

2. Genealogy Library moves into former Valley Academy building (ncwlife.com) ā A longtime local genealogy library has relocated from the Wenatchee Valley Museum annex into the former Valley Academy building, keeping its collection in Wenatchee while the museum is renovated. Volunteers moved 186 boxes of books and furnishings, and theyāre planning an open house on North Wenatchee Avenue so residents can explore the new space once everything is settled.

3. Why LOKI The Siberian Husky Is The Perfect Family Pet (talk1067.com) ā Families in Wenatchee looking for a high-energy companion can meet Loki, a 5-year-old Siberian Husky at the Wenatchee Humane Society whose adoption fee is already paid. The shelter on South Wenatchee Avenue is open daily for visits, and staff encourage you to arrive early if you hope to take a pet home the same day.

4. Funding exists for resilience projects, but access remains the barrier (ncw.news) ā If youāre eyeing resilience or infrastructure projects in Wenatchee, experts say the money is out there but navigating federal and state programs is the real hurdle. At the recent Wenatchee Resilience Summit, speakers highlighted help available from Congresswoman Kim Schrierās office and the state Department of Commerce, using the Confluence Parkway project as a model for securing major funding.

5. Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest offers firewood permits online (ncwlife.com) ā If you collect firewood from the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, youāll soon be able to skip a trip into Wenatchee and apply for a free e-permit online starting May 1. The Forest Service says traditional paper permits will still be offered this season, but the system will go fully digital in 2027, making it easier for locals to stay warm next winter.
