• Police standoff in West Virginia ends after man allegedly sets own garage on fire, dog found inside home shot in neck (wtrf.com) — Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department crews spent hours handling a tense police standoff and house fire on Aarons Creek Road Sunday, where a suspect allegedly set his garage ablaze. Firefighters stayed back while the armed man was barricaded, then moved in after his arrest, containing the blaze and rescuing a dog found inside with a gunshot wound to the neck.
   

• UPDATE: Body found in West Virginia state forest identified as California man (wtrf.com) — Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department members helped search Coopers Rock State Forest, where responders sadly found the body of a missing California man, later identified as 34-year-old Andrew Zimmer. Authorities say no foul play is suspected, and the sheriff’s office has extended condolences to his family while closing the investigation.
