Wood County Commissioners say valuation increase proposal 'dead' (mariettatimes.com) — Wood County commissioners in Parkersburg have declared a proposed 5% countywide property valuation increase "dead," rejecting the idea of using higher assessments to fix a shortfall in the assessor's budget. Instead, they're asking state tax officials to review the assessor's office and exploring other cost-cutting options, aiming to resolve the problem without raising local residents' tax burdens.
   

2. Southwood Park pond leak prompts city investigation (wtap.com) — Parkersburg's Public Works Department is investigating a significant leak at the Southwood Park pond, where a compromised overflow pipe about 12 feet below the surface is suspected. Crews will wait for water levels to drop before safely diagnosing the problem and planning repairs and funding. Recent park renovations focused on surface features, not the discharge system now under scrutiny.
   

3. Teen of the Week: Dance is preparing Parsons for life (newsandsentinel.com) — A recent Parkersburg High School graduate, Liliana Parsons credits years of ballet training in local studios and with the Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company for the discipline and confidence she's taking to West Virginia University. She's now beginning a forensic biology major, aiming to become a medical examiner while hoping to keep dancing and returning home to perform during breaks.
   

5. US Rep. Moore awards Parkersburg $1 million in Community Project Funding (newsandsentinel.com subscription) — Parkersburg has been awarded $1 million in federal Community Project Funding to help modernize the aging Municipal Services Garage, a key hub for public works operations. Mayor Tom Joyce says the 55-year-old facility needs major upgrades, but final plans and full funding are still being worked out as the city waits 12–24 months for the grant money to arrive.
