• Appleton Police Department's K-9 Onyx to retire due to vision loss (wearegreenbay.com) — Appleton residents are saying goodbye to police K-9 Onyx, who's retiring after five years of service due to a degenerative eye condition that caused blindness. Officer Rieth will travel to New Mexico to train a new K-9 partner, while Onyx enjoys retirement at home. The department also thanked community donors whose support keeps its K-9 program strong.
   

• Philosophy professor, 'Jeopardy!' champion Ben Chan now teaching at Lawrence University (fox11online.com) — Appleton's Lawrence University has hired "Jeopardy!" champion Ben Chan as an associate professor of philosophy, bringing a nationally known quiz whiz to campus.
