📰 News we're reading

• Beef woes drive consumers to purchase from local farmers (spectrumnews1.com) — Appleton shoppers are turning more to trusted local beef sources as high prices and newly reduced tariffs on imported lean beef raise questions about quality and origins. Jacobs Meat Market and a nearby cattle farm report strong demand from residents willing to pay more for Midwestern-raised beef and clearer information about how animals are raised and processed.

• Wisconsin Recovery Alignment Tour distributes overdose aid kits across state (wearegreenbay.com) — Appleton residents can access new Overdose Aid Kits as the Wisconsin Recovery Alignment Tour stops locally, placing Narcan-equipped boxes at several Fox Valley sites. Organizers say the kits, which include CPR and 911 instructions, are meant to make lifesaving overdose responses quicker and more accessible across the city and northeast Wisconsin.

• The American Dream Is Alive in the Midwest. For Now. (eig.org) — Appleton's once-comfortable housing market has flipped from a small surplus in 2012 to a nearly 6% shortage by 2023, the largest gap among still-affordable communities studied. The piece explains how rising household formation and limited new construction are tightening supply across the Midwest, warning that Appleton and similar cities must build more homes now to stay livable and affordable.
