Wisconsin soldiers return home after nearly a year in the Middle East (nbc26.com) — Appleton residents saw more than 75 Wisconsin soldiers return Friday to emotional reunions at the Appleton Flight Center after nearly a year deployed in the Middle East. Families from across the state, joined by Gov. Tony Evers and Sen. Tammy Baldwin, celebrated long‑awaited hugs, shared sacrifices, and the end of months apart from loved ones.
   

4. Hot, Dry and Stormy Summer Sets Records in Door County (doorcountypulse.com) — This summer's hot, dry weather in Wisconsin brought record dryness to Door County and an unusually high number of severe storm warnings, including a July 27 system that spawned a destructive EF4 tornado near Appleton before tearing through Fox Crossing and Menasha. The same pattern of drought and violent storms is stressing crops, bruising fruit, and lowering river levels, with effects likely to linger into fall.
