• Ashland Police Department prepares for new K-9, raising funds to support (wdio.com) — Ashland residents are being asked to help fund a new K-9 for the city’s police department after longtime service dog Chase retired in 2025. Officer John Williams is preparing his home, squad car, and equipment for the future dog, relying entirely on community donations rather than city funds. The department has been borrowing K-9s from neighboring sheriff’s offices while they work toward this goal. 
• Bayfield County committee votes to defund Flock license plate cameras (gazettextra.com) — Bayfield County’s Executive Committee has voted to strip funding for Flock license plate cameras from the 2027 budget, shifting the money to fuel for sheriff’s vehicles. The move follows strong resident opposition over privacy concerns, including at cameras near Route 2 west of Ashland. The full county board will make the final decision later this month.
• Enbridge estimates gas leak on Line 5 in northern Wisconsin will cost $15M (waow.com) — A costly August gas leak on Enbridge’s Line 5 in Iron County is now estimated at more than $15 million, and investigators are still probing what went wrong. For Ashland County residents, the story hits closer to home as a separate fire recently damaged drilling equipment at a Line 5 reroute site there, while federal regulators and environmental groups scrutinize the project’s safety and permits.
