Join Brookfield Central High School’s Theatre Department for its performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts. Show times are November 17 at 7:30 pm, November 18 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm and November 19 at 1:00 pm. Originally written for television, with music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the show debuted in 1957. It starred Julie Rogers in the title role of Cinderella, who lives as a servant to her mean step mother and step sisters until her Fairy Godmother transforms her for the ball, where she captivates the Prince.
This charming new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is a triple-threat and a triple-surprise for folks who are new to the live production and the Boomers who remember it in its early television production. This new Cinderella is beautifully traditional, while it basks in the rebellion of nonconformity. It is true to the story of your childhood, yet it dabbles in being late-night revisionist. Though delivered through a sort of revolutionary new script, the message remains timelines and sweet.
