Neighborhood Photojournalist INTERNSHIP
Have FUN Taking Pictures & Meeting Neighbors ~ GREAT for Students Needing Community Service Hours
- The neighborhood photojournalist(s)/interns are expected to complete a minimum of 12 neighborhood/ resident specific stories (kids to kids, meet your neighbor, precious pets, yard of the month, around the hood, amazing achiever, etc.) and provide those photos &/or stories prior to the deadline. ONE connection might be 4 or more stories. IE family with a child, a pet, a yard, a remodel would be FIVE potential stories. OR PICK a Category, IE 12 pets, 12 students, 12, musicians, 12 artists, 12 athletes, etc.
- They can also pick an available category (IE Precious Pets, or Kids2Kids, Young Achiever, around the hood, etc) to work on & get 12 stories completed during their internship. Keep in mind, the first choice will also equal 12 stories, but maybe more efficiently completed, as one family may have 3 or 4 stories.
- Reach out to community connections (IE, high schools, middle schools, PTA’s, churches, etc). to build relationships, get referrals & capture stories.
- Collect/take photos when needed (this is very easy by walking the neighborhood, school, etc., with a camera & pen & notebook, after school or on weekends)
- Update Area Director of progress every Friday by 5pm, via email or text
- Generate new “photo” stories for publication
- Attend neighborhood functions when needed (GREAT place to generate leads for picture stories)
- Upload all stories and photos via email (NOT dropbox) prior to deadline
- Meet with the Area Director once per month to go over last month’s publication and talk about goals/objectives for the coming months
Requirements: flexibility, ability to work independently, outgoing personality, internet connection, camera, ability to learn & meet deadlines, ability to meet with Area Director at least once a month for learning & training, etc. Hours are flexible & determined by photojournalist(s)/intern’s ability to be effective with time management & efficiency, to meet MONTHLY deadlines. Length of internship is also flexible & can be ongoing as well as the possibility to turn into a PAID position for the right candidate(s).
