Bad Timing Means Charges For Area Man

A 24-year-old Caledonia man is accused of carrying drugs with him when he showed up at a home while the police were already there.

Cory S. Planka was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with: one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of a drug without a valid prescription, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana. If convicted, he faces up to 14 months in prison and $2,500 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 10:02 p.m. Thursday, Caledonia police officers were called to a home in the 3800 block of Elderberry Road after a woman watching the house heard two people trying to enter the residence, then heard one of the people say “come on, let’s go.” She said they left in a silver car and asked the officer to keep an eye out for the car.

When the officer went outside, the silver car was parked behind his squad and Planka was trying to hide behind the steering wheel. Planka said he was at the home to meet someone there, however, the officer discovered he had an arrest warrant pending from the Racine Police Department.

Officers placed Planka under arrest and found marijuana, a pipe and a Vicodin pill in his pockets.

Planka is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $250 bond while awaiting trial.
