WISCONSIN RAPIDS – When Paige Jackan spotted a Bud Light can with a piece of string tied to it floating in Crystal River, she just knew it was the treasure. As she paddled her kayak toward it, she called to her friend, Liesl Sigourney (’20, Business Administration) who was paddling nearby in another kayak. “As soon as I saw it, I was like, ‘Liesl! You have to get over here. I think we have it,” Paige said. “She was the one who pulled it up, because she was the one who essentially started this for us.”Liesl grabbed the can and pulled. “There was some weight to it,” she said. “And there it was: A treasure box tied to a big rock. “The box contained a prize of $500, but the money was secondary to the victory of finding it. They’d searched the waters of the Waupaca-area Chain of Lakes for weeks, and almost gave up. This trip, on a foggy morning Oct. 9, was a last-ditch effort.
