A Whole Lotta' Shakin' Goin' on in the Village

Elvis Presley makes an appearance in downtown Greendale for Historical Society art exhibit.

Visitors both young and old were welcomed to the Greendale Historical Society's art exhibit on Saturday, April 30th by no one other than the King of Rock and Roll himself.

Greendale's own Elvis impersonator, Dave Bruno, was on hand for the display featuring artwork by Franklin artist, Carl Ruppert. Ruppert uses a painting style called 'letterism ' to create the portraits of Elvis Presley, among other well-known celebrities. He was originally asked to create the Elvis artwork by a woman who knew Presley personally and was affiliated with Graceland, his estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Ruppert, whose paintings were previously sold at Graceland, has donated some of them to the Historical Society for display and to be raffled off this summer.

Visitors at the free exhibit were able to talk to Ruppert about his artwork and have their pictures taken with Elvis. Other artists were also on hand to talk about their works which are currently on display there as well, including cross-stitch by Ken Judy and artwork and portraits by Steve Peters, Donna Kewan and Gail Bremer.

The gallery also features maps and historical photos from the village of Greendale as it has changed over the years. Some those photos were recently donated by Kohls Department Store.

The Greendale Historical Society is located at 5676 Broad Street and is open every Saturday.
